NFV in a Nutshell

In a new world where application services may be offered locally, via the data center, or even in the cloud, software-defined networking (SDN) is a new way of thinking about how networking and loud solutions should be automated, efficient, and scalable. With an inflexible system that is difficult to operate, maintain, and upgrade, this is impossible.

To meet changing IT and business needs in the future, you’ll need flexibility, simplicity, and the capacity to scale quickly.

Virtualization is the technique of creating a virtual machine that can emulate all hardware resources such as processors, memory, storage, and network access. One or more virtual computers can share physical hardware resources.

VNF (Virtual Network Function) is the fundamental building block of the NFV architecture. It’s the network part that’s been virtualized. When a router is virtualized, for example, we call it Router VNF; base station VNF is another example.
