About Course

Field Hydrology. Understanding the environment begins with the ability to measure it. This course will introduce students to standard approaches for measuring the distribution and fluxes of water under real-world conditions.

Course content

This Field Hydrology course emphasizes exploration and testing methods to find and utilize groundwater resources and introduce pollution studies and control. The following methods and exercises are involved:

  1. Field reconnaissance and water sampling
  2. Land surveillance to determine geographic coordinates
  3. Groundwater sampling to delineate waste leachate pathways and contribution
  4. Piezometers and groundwater monographs
  5. Geophysical exploration by seismic refraction, geoelectric and magnetic sounding and profiling, and ground-penetrating radar
  6. Sounding and test drilling
  7. Infiltration tests, slug tests, and pumping test
  8. Data analysis and reporting
